Sirimavo Bandaranaike Model College is located in a beautiful area surrounded by a ring of mountains in the Matale Education Zone of the Matale District of the Central Province. It is the site of the former dormitory of the Science College. A herd of cattle was lodged in the primary and courtyard part of the area where the beauty unit is located. There is a big well that is scary even to see. In the lower part, the Ahiguntika and the suffering community have 30 to 35 houses built with sand. The entrance road to the school is an area infested with the stench of garbage brought in from Matale town and flies.

To meet the need for a model school which was one of the deficiencies in the education sector of the beautiful city of Matale and to reduce the overcrowding in the admission of students to the first grade in the city of Matale, according to the concept of the then Minister of Provincial Councils and Provincial Defence Mr Thandi Mitra Ekanayake, on 30th August 1996 the former The Minister of Education Mr. Richard Pathirana laid the foundation stone for a model primary school. The name of the college is also Mr Nandimithra Ekanayake. The first foundation of the staircase was laid, the ground floor was built and two floors were built in the front part, which is 13 classrooms. Although a beautiful building was built by the end of 2000, the surroundings are not beautiful. Cows still roam the school grounds, and during the rainy season, the slum dwellers spend the night under the shade of the buildings and bring the council's garbage.

history

In the middle of many troubles and obstacles, on January 27, 2001, the school was handed over to the students by a large group of dignitaries including the then Central Provincial Mr Sarath Ekanayake. At that time, the main hall and the second floor had been built. The music group of Vidya Vidyalaya sang the welcome song and the national anthem. On the following day, the school was blessed with a spiritual charity ceremony in the afternoon.

Initially, the first grade consisted of 06 classes but 04 female teachers. The worried parents also started blaming the principal. One and a half months later, Mrs. Sunetra Menike took over on 15.03.2001 and Mrs. Dayani Jayasuriya took over on 19.03.2001, so the teachers' problem was resolved. The children's play yard is now located in the paddy field near the pond, and children running and walking all over the yard. Many co-curricular activities were also started in addition to the learning and teaching process. The garbage dump and makeshift houses were also removed about a year after the school started due to strong protests and agitations by the parents. M.G.L. Mr P Karana was the first teacher who joined the school on 02/01/2002. After 4 years, the first principal retired on 18/10/2004. At the time of her retirement, the number of students was 720.

After that, Mrs. Sandhya Malaviaracchi, who served as the principal of Sujatha Balika Maha Vidyalaya, became the second principal from 2004/11/01. One year after the appointment of the Principal, the first batch appeared for the scholarship examination in the year 2005 of the college and 53 of them got the cutoff mark and set records in the district.

After that, there was a very serious period. That means there is no school for the children going to the 6th grade in the year 2006. The construction of a secondary section as planned was impossible due to political reasons. Since the beginning of 2000, parents have been protesting by blocking the main road every day for about two months, demanding a school for their children.

On 03/06/2006, our college was fortunate to win the National Productivity Award (S5) in the competition of schools with primary sections. For this victory, under the guidance of the Principal, under the guidance of Deputy Teacher Lalith Karunaratne, all the students, parents and extra-curricular staff have made great sacrifices. Even now, the nearby residents used to go to their homes from the location of the solar cell water tank through the school. There was a permanent fence for the safety of the school and the walls were built around the school with the full participation of the parents. On 10/05/2006, the main hall was completed and handed over to the students. On 10/16/2006, the faculty including the principal of Elwala Maha Vidyalaya visited the school to observe the S 5 concept. On 29/11/2006, the foundation stone was laid under the leadership of the Chief Minister for the construction of a building to take MT/Aluviharaya Maha Vidyalaya as a remedy for the secondary sector. Aluviharaya Vidyalaya is divided into two parts and the part where the buildings are currently located behind the stadium is the Aluviharaya School part.
